Dog found in Daegu - URGENT HELP NEEDED

HELLO! PLEASE HELP. I was found alongside a busy street in Eastern Daegu. the girl who found me lives in a dorm and she cannot keep me here. MONDAY October 8 is the LAST DAY I can stay here!!! She does not want to send me to a shelter, she wants me to find a loving home. I am sweet and loving- I don't know my history, but I would LOVE to meet a new family. PLEASEEEEEEE she doesn't have the heart to turn me out onto the streets again...She also doesn'y have money to ship me home and she doesn't know where else to turn!

Okay, my original comment was answered, but when it got moved to the "blog" section, th answer seems to have been deleted.
I would agree that the best thing to do is to try and find the owner if at all possible. I completely understand how you feel at this point. I've been through it once before. The "how to help a stray" section can help you with suggestions.
Hopefully someone can help you out in terms of a temp. home while you look for the owners. If no one comes to claim her within the next few weeks, then hopefully she can be fostered by someone nearby and adopted.

Well as of 4 o'clock today she needs a home or I have to let her go. I cannot keep her here- I am already in VERY HOT water. =(

clare_bell's picture

Please don't "let her go" as in back on the street or to a shelter - please take her to the nearest vet and keep on advocating for her! In situations like this often all that is needed is a little time. I think vets are supposed to keep the dog for 10 days.

I shared this on FB and had 2 friends share too, but for some reason it said access denied. I have shared once again so hopefully people will be able to see this.

You probably got an "access denied" message because you linked to the adoption listing. I removed the adoption listing and reposted the same information as a blog post, so the URL changed. (Unfortunately, I cannot move comments so previous answers were lost when doing this). Sorry for the confusion.

Don't some veterinarians take stray dogs for a time? Or what about taking her to a shelter in Daegu? Anyone in Daegu?

Danomano's picture

Clare got to this first!

barkera719's picture

I don't want to, but I am out of options. I have only been in Daegu for a month, I don't have friends who can take her- we are all in the same dorm. I don't know where a vet is or how to get to one.

clare_bell's picture

OK please hang on a little longer!

I will ask my Korean friend to write "please take me to the nearest vet/animal hospital" in Korean. You could print it or use someone's smart phone and show it to a taxi driver. I'll get back to you soon!

barkera719's picture

Thank you!

clare_bell's picture

OK here it is!

"가장 가까운 동물병원까지 데려다주세요"

Please hop in a taxi and take the little one there. Then please get their business card (which usually has a map on it) and see if you can upload the pic onto here. From there we can have a little more time to try and make a plan!

Please also ensure that they KEEP her for the 10 days and do NOT euthanize her or send her to a shelter but rather call you first. I'm SURE we can find someone to foster her!

Thank you for picking her up!

Thanks for this phrase! I've added it to the Helping a Stray page.

I will do all that I can, but I do not have a number for them to call- I am only student teaching here. All I have is e-mail I hope this works.

Hi again,

ARK members on Facebook say the following:

Guillian
My vet sends to the pound that day or the next day. :(

Katherine
Not all vets keep them ten days. The 24 hour vet got two dogs dropped off in a box. Sent them to KARAMA the next day. Be very careful to make sure they know someone is coming for this dog in ten days.

Damn it!! Anyway, we can only do what we can do. :( Please try get the vet to understand that you are working on a solution and we WILL find that dog somewhere to go within 10 days!

You can give them my number for now, I'll PM it to you. It won't help much though because I can't speak Korean...! >.<

Where exactly are you in Daegu? What's your nearest subway stop?

This is a list of English speaking vets in Daegu:

I have some free time, so if you need some help I could come collect you and the pup, then we could go to the vets together.

Can someone tell me how to go about this with a vet, getting them to take her for a little while? There's no way I could afford to pay a vet bill right now, so I don't want them to think I'm carting the bill. (I feel pretty sleezy saying that, but I'm officially unemployed and living on savings at this point.)

So Mocha has been relocated to the Dongchon Homeplus animal hospital. He promised to find her a good home and she will not be sent to a kill shelter or to any type of shelter. If you are interested, you can contact the vet there. He was so kind and his English was great. =)
Thank you for all of your help!!
I followed the link to the English speaking vets in Daegu (and used Clare’s Korean note) and they brought me to the sweetest vet who works at the “Cool Pets” in Dongchon Homeplus. He swore to me that he would help Mocha find a home. He does not send strays to the pound or to shelters.
He also offered her free medical care for her paws and fed her while I cried and took pictures.
=) I love good people.
I'm sorry I didn't hear from you soon enough Megs and Clare, I had to pick the dog up from a good Samaritan at 4 o’clock (a really kind secretary a block over from my school). I got called into the principal’s office in the middle of the day to get rid of her. =( So harsh.
I really hope she finds a good home. Send your friends in the right direction- she will still need a home, but now she has a little more time.

Hey, that's great news!
You had a hard time of it, but it's really wonderful that you did so much. It's too bad your principal wasn't more understanding or more helpful. I think it's great that you kept at it, even when things were tough.

Thank you! I really hope she finds a good home.

Wonderful all round! Lets keep working on her homing!

So, now what? I heard someone's already stepped up as a possible foster.

clare_bell's picture

Hi megs, all I know is that Katelin has a potential foster but nothing for sure yet...

clare_bell's picture

Awesome work guys! Thanks for taking the pup in barkera719 :) Thanks for offering your help megs! Totally cool! I hope the vet will be able to search the lost/found pages. Maybe this little one has a family who is missing her.

The vet sounds great and so kind that he will treat her for free. We need more like that!

Today I was in Dongcheon for paperwork, so I went over to HomePlus to visit little Mocha.

Mocha is doing really well. The vet wasn't there, but two of his assistants were. Little Mocha follows one of them in particular like a little shadow.
When I first walked in, she was really excited to see me, sniffed my hand, and immediately backed away to hide.
The assistant said I could come past the gate, and I did. Then I sat down in a chair and waited for Mocha to come over. She came over to sniff me again, but ran back to "mommy" and did a kind of "huff" - not really a bark or a growl.
I sat in the chair for a while. There were two toy poodles being held by a Korean man. Mocha ran over to investigate a sound or some such thing, and one of the poodles saw her and started barking her fool head off. Mocha freaked out and ran back to "mommy."
A Korean mother and her daughter brought a poodle pup in for some such thing, and Mocha was super excited to sniff the poodle pup, then ran to hide and was scared. The pup mostly ignored her, as she was whining and crying for her girl. Mocha was pretty terrified, though, trembling like a leaf.
Her "mommy" asked me about Mocha's story, and I explained. She reassured me and said not to worry, Mocha had a home there. She often held and kissed Mocha and spoke to her in Korean. Whenever she walked from one end of the room to the other, Mocha was at her heels, looking up at her and very happy.
Mocha's vet assistant mommy told me that she's about 10 mo. to a year. She's still quite a little fuzzball, and she smells like shampoo from a recent bath.
She has free run of a large tiled area, and the vet assistant leaves out food and water and a pee pad.
At one point, the vet assistant put her in my lap (Mocha wasn't interested in coming over to me/was scared to come over) and Mocha stayed there, but she was extremely tense. After about 5 minutes she wanted down.
It seems to me like she's got a lot of energy and love to give, but she's terrified of dogs and people alike. However, considering she just got to the vet yesterday, it seems like she warms up pretty quick.
The vet assistant was a really kind woman. She asked me if I would visit again, and I said yes. She seemed pretty happy about that. Also, I noticed that they kept those cranky old poodles away from Mocha while they were waiting for their owner. Mocha got the lion's share of room to run, they got a decent-sized pen in the middle of the floor.
So all in all, I think it's an excellent place for Mocha to be at the moment, because they really seem to care about the animals and want to protect them.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! I am so happy to hear this. You have no idea- tears of joy. I was so scared after reading about the vets and things, but he seemed so kind and I had no options other than to trust him. Tomorrow I will need ot get cornstarch for an oobleck lesson so...I will go see her. =)

Wonderful. Thank you so much, Megs!!!
