Update October 20, 2013: Jellybean has become a member of my family. She's decided to adopt me.
--------------------
Jellybean got adopted, but unfortunately the new home didn't work out and she's recovering in the hospital after major dental surgery. Her problems were more serious than expected and she lost many teeth--including all the teeth on her upper left side. If I understand the situation, JB developed "wry bite" as a kitten, meaning her baby teeth didn't grow in properly, and their positioning caused her jaw to become malformed/asymmetrical. As a result, many of her adult teeth grew in abnormally and one tooth broke. Dr. Kwon found she had severe gum disease and had lost a lot of bone due to this condition. Fortunately, she's going to be OK thanks to the good care she's getting at the May Animal Hospital.
Here are a couple of articles that mention wry bite and explain what a horrible condition it is:
http://www.dentalvet.com/patients/orthodontics/pet_orthodontics.htm
http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/cat-dental-problems-and-care?page=2
Also, she shows problematic behaviour towards men. I really want her next home to be the right one, and I'm looking into the possibility of re-homing her through an overseas rescue.
------------------
Jellybean's last caregiver left suddenly in July, and I agreed to take her on a temporary emergency basis. This beautiful, affectionate and playful Persian cat really likes drinking from the kitchen tap. My kitties aren't allowed on countertops, but I ended up having to relax the rules and clear off the counter for Jellybean.
She's had most of her shots (needs one more) and has been sterilized (confirmed by a vet who observed her scar). No one knows where she came from originally (she's not microchipped), but it's believed that she ran into a foreigner's house in Daejeon about a year ago and got "passed along" when that person had to leave the country.
JB got a haircut July 27, but she's very camera shy so I had trouble getting a good picture. Her profile pic shows how pretty she is when she's professionally groomed.
She's negative for FIV and feline leukemia, and her blood test results were good overall (blood cells, internal organs, etc.), but she has been exposed to a coronavirus. Apparently in a small percentage of cats the virus can mutate and develop into a serious condition called FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Vets tell me it's not harmful for her to share litter boxes and food/water dishes with other cats.
Runny eyes are common in Persian cats--I gave her drops for 10 days and her eyes improved, but she still needs her face cleaned regularly.
Original Description by Kathryn (July 5, 2013):
**URGENT** I leave on Saturday. Jellybean needs a home before then.
Persian (may be mixed with angora). Long haired right now. She needs a shave because she mats behind her legs. She likes to be brushed with a hair brush, but not a grooming brush. She free feeds and has no problem with her weight. She loves dried sardines as a treat.
She does need to be an only cat. She has feline herpes which shows up as discharge from her eyes. She's pretty good at letting you clean off her face.

She ran into another foreigners house. I had planned on fostering a cat while here. I picked her up, cleaned her up and got her to the vet the next day. She's been part of my household ever since.
I wish I could take her home, but my family has two cats already and it just won't work, especially with Jellybean having herpes.
She's named for my best friend who passed away almost two years ago. Melanie loved to eat jellybeans and I thought it was an appropriate tribute to the person who cared when no one else did.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Jellybean is a lovely name.
With all that hair, she must really dislike Korean summers :(

She doesn't mind them. The house is cool and she gets plenty of water and shady places to hang out.

Where are you taking her if you don't find a home before the weekend?!

I'm meeting Kathryn after work and will be taking Jellybean on a temporary emergency basis until a better foster home opens up. I wasn't looking to take in any more fosters, but I decided based on the urgency of the situation that I can manage it for a short time.

Jellybean is very friendly and she tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. She has been exposed to a feline coronavirus, which probably won't cause her any problems, but it may be best if she doesn't share living space with unexposed cats. It's not clear whether she definitely has herpes, but this is something most cats have been exposed to so it's probably not going to be a big barrier to adoption.
Kathryn, your Kakaotalk picture of Jellybean is super cute! I think it would make a nice profile picture.

Jellybean is a sweet cat and she's getting eyedrops twice a day. Her appetite seems to be picking up, but I don't think she likes solitary confinement. Can anyone foster her?

I clicked the adoption link, but it says it has been deleted. Should I send the application to the person in the contact information? Thank you for your help.
