UPDATE: January 17
Wowee!!!! Shanti will be going to a forever home this weekend! Yay! A very special cat for a very special someone!
***
Shanti is waiting for someone to see what a beautiful and cool cat she is. Shanti gets along really well with other cats. She is curious about people, but seems to keep her distance a bit. She wants to see what they are doing, but still a little hesitant to really soak it all up. Some of the cats in the pen at the shelter just completely keep their distance, but she will come out on a perch or peer through the open balcony area to see what I'm doing. This cat is really stunning and I imagine she just needs a little time in a home, coddling, love, and attention to come out of her shell and see what a good life she could have.
Shanti appears to be in great health: She's active, cleans herself, etc. Any minor things (like ear mites, lack of vaccinations, etc) can easily be fixed at a vet. She very likely has rhino, a respiratory virus that causes sneezing, runny/stuffy noses, etc) when in a stressful situation being in a shelter (it's very common among cats in Korea). When I visited her, she had no symptoms whatsoever of this, but she is in a pen with others who do have it and we don't know if she's been vaccinated against it. It can't be cured, but the symptoms can be minimized with gel or medicine. Often times, it just takes a happy and healthy environment and cats' symptoms will stop! It's contagious, but can be vaccinated against. One of the volunteers at Asan--her cat has it, and her other cat doesn't. Simple and easy to manage.
I will try to find out more about her story; in fact I am not even sure if she's a she, but I wanted to get her profile up ASAP. Come meet this beauty!!!

Oh yeah, that's all well and good that she's going home tomorrow but we have to catch her first. Lol, not looking forward to chasing after her.

Thank you! How is Shanti doing? What has it been like for her to settle in a nice warm home without a jillion other cats? What a lucky thing she is. I named her Shanti from Sanskrit--peace/bliss :)

Well, I adopted her now over a month ago and it's been interesting to say the least.
I've actually renamed her Solène which is French for "solemn" which is eerily close to Shanti's meaning, lol! I'm from Canada and felt French inspired when I saw her.
Solène's adjusting very slowly. I live in an apartment that has an unused loft area which I completely dedicated to her litter box, scratching post and food because I wanted her to have her own personal space. Solène discovered an awesome hiding spot - a crevice beneath my bed that she hides in ALL DAY. But I do hear her come out at night when she's confident I'm in bed. She loves all her stuff and her home - but it will take a lot of time before she trusts me completely. On occasion, when she's feeling curious, she'll come out from her hiding spot and check me out. I've seen her actually stretch out on the floor in a relaxed pose - although a good 12 feet away from me. I hope one day she'll allow her mommy to pet her!

Wow, major adjustment for Solene; this is very interesting. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I feel certain she will come around with your love and patience.

I'm in the midst of churning out more details on the blog portion of my account. I'm kind of new to blogging (though not so bad at storytelling) but it'll give you more details if you're interested. :)

I'm just seeing this comment so I'm not sure if you meant the ARK blog (which you found) or a different one (which sadly, doesn't yet exist).
