Lena is a beautiful Setter. She is an affectionate, active and smart, black and white female. She walks on a leash well enough, and is friendly and eager to please. Lena loves people and so wants to be a part of a family.
She gets along with her canine friends. She likes to run and play.
As with most setters, Lena really enjoys being inside and likes to cuddle and interact. She would like to sleep on her own doggie bed next to her future parent's bed.
Lena is just a joy to have around. She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. She would do well with a family who has had dogs before and is familiar with their specific needs, as well as someone who is able to spend enough time with her. Lena so deserves a loving family. She has many years and lots of love to share and will reward anyone willing to welcome her into their home.
Rescue story: was rescued from death row in Asan city on March, 20th, 2013.

Update 20 August 2013:
Lena's almost two weeks past the Immiticide shots now, though she's still on the blood thinning meds for three more days. It's almost over!
Update 3 August 2013:
Donation request for Lena's treatment: http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/blog/sofia/help-lena-battle-the-parasit...
We have high hopes for a full recovery for this sweet girl! Please consider becoming a part of Lena’s recovery.
Nobody wants their dogs to have these worms inside of them - a dog's heart is one of the things we love most about them.
Update 20 July 2013:
Today Lena left the shelter and headed into foster care, great! Unfortunately when Lena's foster mom took her to the vet for a checkup, she was diagnosed with heartworm. We HATE heartworm! :(( Poor Lena. Not only is it difficult to treat & tough on the body, but it is also extremely expensive, especially for a dog her size. We will need to start up a fundraiser to help her foster mom with the bills. Once I know more I will post an update. Please keep her in your thoughts as she battles the parasites that are living in her heart!
If you would like this dog to be a part of your life please complete the application form: http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/adoption-application & send it to the people listed under "contacts" below.
Thank you!

What a sweet and special dog. Lena is amazing and really deserves the second chance she has been given by Mr. Park at Asan Shelter. So beautiful and super affectionate, I hope to spend more time with this lovely girl next time around...

I can't believe Lena hasn't been adopted yet. She's incredibly friendly and she's obviously been someone's pet. She's sits whenever you stop walking and will sit still for as long as you keep petting her--this despite that she only gets out of her cage one a week if she's lucky, but generally much less often. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's already house trained too.

Heartworm?! Oh no, that's terrible news. Fight hard, Lena! You've got a reason to fight now! (thanks, foster mom!)

From Lena's foster mom:
" Lena is doing GREAT and I'm seeing her every day. I've decided to keep her at the clinic and board her there for one more week, as she seems quite calm there and the vets really like her and are taking great care of her. They are being EXTREMELY careful about keeping her heart rate down, which is good. We decided to keep her there as she's gotten used to it and the stress levels will be as low as possible. She will start on the IV on Saturday and get the first adulticide shot on Sunday and the second on Monday. She'll then be on IV till Tuesday at which point I will take her home if all is well. She'll then take two more weeks of meds, rest for an additional two weeks after that, and should be ready to start "real life" post-heartworm by the end of August.
She's already gained more than 2 kilos and her coat is so much shinier and her eyes so much clearer now after only a week and a half... it's incredible. She is so sweet and the vets just love her. I have three main vets looking after her and they've been awesome... They are doing much of the treatment for ticks, the cuts she had, etc. for free since the heartworm stuff is expensive and she's a rescue.
They moved her today to a big open pen in the front office because they said she was too unstimulated in the back room. So she has lots of things to look at now besides the cats"
"The vets said she's probably between one and two years old, rather than 3. She acts very young so I'm not surprised. She loves salmon treats and she knows "sit"."
