*UPDATE August 26th*
Good news! Sweet Cody may have found a family! He charmed them with his good looks, great personality, and wonderful smile today. Let's hope this boy has found his forever home!
*UPDATE August 3rd*
Cody has been settling in at BAPS well. He walks well on the leash and is very happy to get some attention. He has such a great smile! In this hot weather he's been content with slower and more relaxed walks, but he would also do well with someone who likes to go for long walks. Cody's rescuer comes to see him almost every week and it would be wonderful if he could quickly find a good home.
Cody has just arrived at BAPS, here is his sad story. Cody was a stray dog in Jeju island, and was adopted by an American English teacher. She brought him to Busan and kept him for about a year. When her contract finished, she got a job in China. It is relatively easy to take dogs to China from here, but for some reason she decided to leave Cody in a pet hotel, and said that she would take the dog to China soon, and pay the full cost. She left her coworker's contact at the hotel.
Well, months passed and the American came up with excuse after excuse, and finally said she wasn't going to claim poor Cody. The hotel called the Korean coworker, demanding that the bill be paid, and Cody be collected. The co worker is an animal lover, and paid the whole hotel fee, and took Cody home with her. However, due to her family's living situation, she was unable to keep Cody in her small apartment.
Things got bad soon, as Cody was still a puppy, and barked a lot when left alone. She took Cody to a local shelter, a very dirty and dangerous place, but there was nowhere else to send him. She wanted Cody to have a chance at a new life. She started frantically searching for a safe place for Cody. After several months, she found BAPS.
BAPS has limited space and has to be careful that dogs we take in are free from disease so not to infect our other dogs. Shelter director Leo asked her to take the dog to vet, have all vaccinations and tests done, and depending on the results, and my evaluation of the dog's temperament and adoptability, he will CONSIDER taking him in. The total costs of the medical test is about 200,000 won. This wonderful lady was not about to give up on Cody. She contacted BAPS about five days later with every single test. Then she asked to bring him to BAPS for the "personality test".
Today Cody came, shy at first, but within a few minutes, he was a stellar fellow. Got along with everyone, canine and human, and won us all over with his smile. At the end of the day, we put him in a cage, and he walked and sniffed every corner of it, then went to the pillow in the middle, and plopped down contently.
Cody is an amazing dog. He is large for Korean standards (between a male Cocker Spaniel and a Female Labrador), but he is housebroken, spayed, up to date with all vaccinations, and adorable.
I hope he gets a home soon, Jungsook was very sad to leave Cody but he is in good hands now. We were all amazed at home far she had gone to try to get Cody into a loving home. Considering giving the handsome Cody a chance, he has overcome so much already.
Medical history:
Up to date on shots.
Neutered.
Heartworm negative
Cody is a BAPS dog, which means anyone interested in fostering or adopting him will need to complete the adoption application (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/adoption-application) and volunteer two Sundays in a row (from 11-3) at our shelter. For an adoption, one must complete a month long trial to make sure you and the dog are a good fit! You can visit the shelter page for more information!
