Description:

This is Wombat from Asan!

UPDATE2: Wombat is back to my house and we went camping :)

UPDATE: Wombly-bear was adopted but, sadly for him, this new person's landlord changed his mind about allowing dogs so Wombat is coming back to live with me.

Poor little Womble had been in Asan for quite a while. When I first met him (almost a year ago!) he was not a happy chap but he slowly got used to the shelter and became well loved among the regular volenteers even though he was all the way up in the furthest pen on the hill. He was a sweety at the shelter and he's even more of a sweety now he's moved in with me.

He's settled in so well. I'm pretty sure he's been a house dog before as he knows what toys are for, can work a pee pad and really loves soft and snuggly things. He's a very good boy. He doesn't bark, doesn't fuss when I leave, doesn't beg for food, doesn't touch things that aren't his and is fine when I leave him on his own.

So far he's been friendly though reserved with the people and dogs we've met on walks. I had a chance to test him on kids and cats the other night and he was disinterested in both of them.

Wombat is a little dog, about 4 kgs and kind of stubby :) He as a beautiful golden fluffy coat and a thoughtful face. He's young (about 2 years old) but he's a chill kid and has definitely grown out of any puppy sillyness.

He has a good brain. So far he's learnt a few tricks, quickly figured out that he's not meant to pull when we go on walks and and that he has to ask nicely before he jumps on the bed. He's not very food driven but loves to be told he's clever so he's easy to train.

UPDATE: Wombat: Did you know my thing on the interwebs has EXPIRED!?
Kate: Well, that's what happens when you eat my computer cable and it takes for ever for the new one to come.
Wombat: I'm sorry :(
(Wombat has the best 'I'm sorry' face of any dog, it makes it very very hard to say mad at him for more than 2 seconds)

ANOTHER UPDATE: Wombly-bear is the bestest of dogs. I'm about 3 points away from adopting him myself but I'm not 100% sure I know what my living situation will be like next year...so if you want him get in fast!

If you would like to meet wonderful Wombat send me an email: [email protected]

Any luck for this sweet thing? Did the adoption work out with the guy that was interested in him?

allisondyoung's picture

The adoption is currently pending! I'll update as soon as everything has been confirmed. Fingers crossed for Wombat!

How is Wombat? He is so small and looks oh so cuddly.

Did Wombat end up getting adopted?

allisondyoung's picture

No, poor little Wombat is still waiting for someone special to take him home.

I love Wombat so much. He is such a great dog, and deserves a great life. Currently, his life sucks. Is there anyone out there who can change this for him?

As of today I'm fostering Wombat. So far he has been perfectly perfect. He very much enjoyed the car ride and the treats he got when we finaly arrived home. and right now he is streched out on the floor asleep :) I'll make him a new thread with updated info in the next few days

Kate, am so happy you decided on Wombat! What a lucky fellow to have you for a foster mom.

Wombat is so sweet and relaxed...I can't say enough how happy I am that he is safe and warm with his foster mom this winter. Sarah Adams took some great "Glamour Shots" at Asan this past weekend, and of all the dogs she photographed, Wombat was definitely the most cooperative! It seemed like he was enjoying it almost as much as we were! :)

Snow! Wombat quie likes the snow and also zooming at the park. He's an angel off lead and always comes when he's called.

He also likes bag-riding. Look at his little hand hanging oh so casually over the side of the bag :) He's the cutest!

Me and Wombat are so sick of winter. It's too cold to go for long walks and there is nothing to do ><

Wombat would make the best summer-adventuring companion - he LOVES car rides, is perfect on public transport, is nice enough to strange people and dogs but wont hassle them unless they really want him to and is perfect on and off leash. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the cold and nor is Wombat (He loves snow for about 10 mins then he start's looking up at me hoping I'll carry him and save his frozen paws) so we mostly stay inside watching movies these days.

Wombat can be a bit standoffish when people he doesn't know come over to our house (he's 100% fine with his friends) but not at all aggressive. He's very polite with people we meet outside of home - even the vet who stabbed him with a bunch of needles last time we went which Wombat didn't like at all!

Wombat is one of those dogs who really grows on you. His personality has really come out since moving here, he's quirky, funny, clever, shy in a really cute way that just makes you want to cuddle him and keep him safe and very affectionate.

He looks like such a sweetie! May I visit him this week? I have sent an email to your hotmail, so please check it! :)

I took care of Wombat when Kate, his foster mom, was on vacation in February. OMG, he is so funny, quirky, sweet, cute! He really wants to please you, and he loves attention and petting. He missed Kate a lot at first, and was scared and needed some time to adjust, but once he got used to things, he was thriving.

My dog Comet loves him, and they got along amazingly. I WISH I could adopt Wombat--I really fell in love with him while dogsitting, and I almost cried when he left. I tried to get some videos, pictures, but you have to see Wombat to see how cute he is! Here is my best attempt at capturing Wombat's sweet and funny character. Whoever gets Wombat will be a very lucky pet parent indeed.

Thanks Anne Marie!

Wombly is indeed the best of dogs. He can be a bit of a sensitive guy and it seems that it takes a few days for him to get used to a new place but once he's settled he's fun and sweet and happy and cuddly and awesome! Wombat barked and whined when he was at Anne Marie's when he was shut in the pen and failed at showing off his toilet traing for the first few days but then settled in. He's always been allowed free range at my house (or gated into a largish part of the room) and he NEVER barks, he's also really reliable at using the peepad if I don't take him out in time so I was surprised that he forgot to do that for a while when he was on holiday. Silly puppy.

Here are some of the things that make Wombat lovely:
He's FUN - He loves to do things - fetch, find the bone, catch the hand, walks and exploring, car rides etc. But at the same time hes not high energy or annoying. I don't feel bad if he doesn't get a lot of time out of the house becasue he doesn't seem to care but I know I can take him anywhere and he'll love it.
He's little and cute! - Wombat is seriously cute - just look at his pics! And he has a great smile and expressive ears (his 'I'm sorry' face is pretty impresive too) He's little enough to carry round in a bag, on bussesand in taxis without making your sholder ache and he rather likes bag riding too.
He's cuddly - aside from Cherry, Wombat is the cuddliest foster I've had. He likes being stroked like a cat, sitting on knees and sleeping against your legs.

Adopt Wombat! He will make you the happiest fur-parent ever!

Congratulations Wombat, buddy. So happy for you but I will miss you.

Please tell the new mom I'm happy to petsit ANY time.

Wombat is an AMAZING dog.

Wombat is moving back in with me soon. His new person's landlord changed his mind about letting her have dogs...I'm actually really looking forward to him coming back and Cherry will be ecstatic I'm sure. I think his heart broke a little bit when Wombat moved away and he was rather needy and not his usual self when he figured out he was an 'only dog.'

Wombat didn't think much of his new room mate Smeagol but I think this was more to do with the shock of being in a new place with a new person and a new dog was just more than his sensitive self could handle. He got on really well with Cherry-bear and LOVED Commet when he came to stay so I don't think he'd have any problems in a multi-dog house - he'd probably just need some time to adjust.

I took Wombat camping last weekend and he was THE BEST!

He's such a good boy, very trustworthy, never wanders off, is always calm in the car and happy to get pats frrm strangers. I actually can't think of any way he could be a better dog. And here are some photos.

clare_bell's picture

What a wonderful set of pics. Love the one of him in the car!

pattzita's picture

Has he got a permanent home? I just email to Kate yesterday and wonder if Wombat still need a permanent family??

kate's picture

Wombat was adopted (again!) :) :)

annemariew's picture

Yay!!! Who adopted him?

pattzita's picture

As soon as he arrived our house..I nearly forgot Kate's words about how shy he was! He was so energetic and super active man! Today after a lunch nap, he was taken out for a 40 mins jogging and could do really well. Still..he was very energetic when he got home ^_^ Kate, you have been such a great mom for Wombat! We can see how healthy and affectionate he is.
..The only problem is that he does not seem to enjoy having his pet food but keep sending us messages through his sweet big eyes for other kind of food. Such a torturing moment for us to pretend to ignore his sight -_-"l

annemariew's picture

Pattzita, if you ever need a petsitter and can drop him in Jochiwon (close to Cheonan and Cheongju) I'm available! Love Wombat so much. I'm getting ready to be gone for a chunk of the summer but back in the fall.

clare_bell's picture

Wohoo!! Congratulations!!

pattzita's picture

Thank you for a petsitter offering ^^ He would be glad to hear that too!!

annemariew's picture

Pattzita, for petsitting, my email is [email protected] and I can usually be found on the ARK Facebook site fairly frequently. You chose a wonderful dog!!! So happy for little Wombat.
