Everyone loves Charlie, so he doesn't understand why he is still waiting for a home, and neither do we!
But we are happy to say that he finally has found his home!
He is a very friendly boy, and is good with both people and other dogs. He loves to play fetch! We don't have many children visiting the shelter, but I suspect that if a child had a ball for him to fetch, they would be best friends. Since he loves playing fetch so much, he is accommodating if you don't have any real toys around. A cardboard tube or ball of paper will do just as well for him! But to have real toys of his very own? That would be a dream come true. Can you make it happen for him?
He loves to be petted and is very happy to go out on a walk, as well.
He has been at the Ugidongmul shelter since at least July 2010 when I first started to volunteer there.
Charlie has been waiting for someone to love. Will that person be you?

Isn't he just the cutest? I'm not from the Jeju Shelter--I volunteer at a different one, but I have to say that of all the animals, Charlie steals my heart the most. I have even posted him a couple of times on the ARK Facebook site even though I had never met him either. I'll let Jeju people respond, but just so you know, Jeju is an easy trip--less than an hour by plane--and you could enjoy Jeju for a day or two also.

Hi Antonio B, and thanks for responding annemarie!
Antonio: Previously mainland adopters have come to Jeju to meet and pick up their new family member. This gives them a chance to meet the animal in person before they make the commitment and adopt from the shelter. I know it can seem like quite the trip, so we try to get to know each other and have as much information and preparation beforehand. In the past mainlanders have come and leave with their new friend on the same day. Co-ordinators on the island often volunteer to help with island transportation so visitors don't have to worry about finding their way around. Flights to Jeju can be pretty reasonable, and I've found having dogs fly domestically in Korea to be quite cheap! Excluding the crate cost, of course.
It is possible for an animal to be sent alone via cargo, but it is not common with our adoptions here. We really like to get the chance to know someone well before they adopt one of the animals here, especially since their new home would be far from the shelter in case something didn't work out. We'd like to make sure they are a good match for you! Would you be able to send an adoption application form (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/adoption-application) to [email protected]? And feel free to give me a shout about any other questions you might have :)

Info about travelling to Jeju to adopt is also in this forum thread about Ugidongmul Shelter (see especially post #32 and post #21 on page 2). Hope that helps!

No good news for Charlie yet. But he's been a good boy this year so he's hoping he'll finally get his Christmas wish: a home and somebody to love.

Here is Charlie enjoying time with people, and with a toy! It's easy to make him happy, but his happiness is fleeting since the volunteers go home, but he doesn't have a home to go to, too.
But you can see how he likes people! We just have to work on the jumping for joy, though...

I got to visit my favorite dog Charlie last weekend. I was told that he is 4--he looks very young, teeth are quite white. In person, and he is shaven down right now, he looks much smaller in person compared to his photos. He's a small "medium" dog--a very manageable size. He is an angel. Hoping his forever home comes soon.

Some children were visiting the shelter this past weekend and it looks like Charlie was being pretty good with him. So I suspect he might be good with kids :)

Oh gosh, Chocolate Charlie has been waiting so long; his first post was Dec 2010 http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5144&highlight=...
Could you imagine living in the shelter for a year, no comfy bed, no family?
Man, he is just absolutely stunning!
This picture just still tugs at my heart, how many times do these babies think they go unloved because they were bad :/

So you think that the owner of the Jeju Shelter would be oK with Charlie being fostered first on the mainland? I sometimes post Charlie's picture/profile on ARK Facebook but haven't highlighted it as a foster. We could start posting/pushing for a foster there with hopes of a foster situation and then a move to a permanent home.

Probably it would depend on the foster home. Almost all of the fostering situations have been with those currently on Jeju, but with the right people I think it could be possible. And it would definitely help him to find his forever people!

Last week Charlie left the shelter to get ready for his big day. He went for walks in a beautiful park, was washed, loved, and received his vaccinations and papers to get him ready for flying to his new home. This past weekend he said a sad good-bye to Jeju and the shelter, flying to Seoul, and then to Vancouver, and then to Toronto, and finally went to his new home. He was such a trooper on the journey. Thanks to his courier Colleen for helping him all the way!
His new family love him very much. He is such a gentle and wonderful dog, it would be hard not to :)
He has two new dog buddies, two amazing parents, and four children who love him and play with him. He has toys, a backyard to romp in, and a bed of his own (although at night he sleeps with his mom and dad with his dog friends. I hear he snores^^)
Charlie is still getting used to his new life (and I'm sure getting over a bit of jetlag) but I think he has found a great home with some great people. And best of all (for me) is that I'll get to see him when I return to Canada. He lives in my hometown! :D
Congratulations, Charlie. I think you've found a good home.
Thanks to everyone who has helped him along the way and for the shelter for taking care of him and giving him a chance to find his forever home. He couldn't be where he is today without you.
And special thanks to his wonderful forever family. I think he's pretty lucky to have found you.

FINALLY!!! I am over the moon. Really, what a magical ending for Charlie. So many of us have been rooting for him. Katherine, amazing you!
I'm so curious about how you found the home for him. Was it a family friend? Did they read about him here at ARK?
Go Charlie, go Charlie, go!!!!
Thanks for all involved.

I've taken quite a few pictures and videos of Charlie, posting them on his thread here on ARK and elsewhere. My sister actually fell in love with him but she wasn't able to adopt him. She talked about him all the time and was the one who actually connected him to his new home.
I think his listing on ARK really helped him to snag some of the spotlight and showcase what a loving and well-loved he is and could be.
