Huge congratulations to Crystal and her new family!!!
This beautiful and affectionate lady finally has her own family and home where she can receive the love and attention she has always deserved!
Thanks so much to her new family, and best of luck to all!
UPDATE:
Crystal received some heartworm prevention today, and is looking happy and healthy!
Please consider giving her a loving home!
Aug. 2012
Crystal is such a people dog, and it's so sad to walk past her pen while tending to some of the other dogs and see her pleading eyes begging for a little acknowledgement and affection. Of course, all shelter workers and volunteers give each dog as much attention as is possible, however, Crystal really desires and deserves her own family who will love her just as intensely as she will love them.
Why don't you come out to the shelter and see for yourself just how wonderful this dog is?
UPDATE: July, 2012
Crystal recently received a healthy dose of heartworm perventative, and is looking and feeling great! This dog would make an absolutely wonderful addition to any house and family!
UPDATE: June 24, 2012
Crystal tested NEGATIVE for heartworm today, and was also vaccinated!
This dog is really special! She is friendly without being needy, affectionate without being overbearing, and she has a sense of wisdom about her that is difficult to describe but can be seen when looking into her eyes.
With her positive medical check-up today, Crystal is even more ready for her forever home! Please come out to Asan to visit this living treasure today!
CRYSTAL:
Recipe for a Diamond in the Rough:
Take one gorgeous Jindo mix.
Add three generous helpings of intelligence, affection and zest for life.
Top it off with a glint of mischievousness in her eye.
End Result: Crystal- a wonderful resident of Asan shelter.
Or, you can save yourself the hassle of trying to create such a masterpiece from scratch and come on down to the shelter to take this one-of-a-kind gem home with you. This magnificent jewel is truly both a man and woman's best friend.

Wow! Crystal (a.k.a. "Gorgeous") really is one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever met. She has the sweetest personality and is very friendly. I think that Crystal has been diagnosed with Heartworm, but I'm not entirely sure, I didn't get a chance to ask Mr. Park about it today, but I will find out soon and update. Crystal is so skinny, and gobbled up all the extra food I gave her today. She really deserves a chance to become a healthy, happy dog.

The poor girl! I would take her in but I have a very small one bedroom apartment that would not make a good permanent home for her, though it sounds like she could really use a foster home so I will definitely consider fostering her... Is there some sort of paper-work that I will need to fill out?

She really is a wonderful dog, and it looks like she's putting on a bit of weight, which is great to see! Unless, of course, she's been impregnated by her next-door neighbor who keeps getting into her pen!

I didn't have time to walk this beautiful girl today but she caught my eye up on the hill. She was so calm and dignified next to all the dogs beside her who were barking and jumping around. I went into her pen and she never tried to rush out, she let me in and I just sat with her and gave her some much deserved love. She is such a gentle girl and took the treats I gave her so gingerly. I would foster her in a heartbeat but she is a large dog, too big for my little apartment.

I asked this question in Peyton's file but am wondering the same thing for Crystal; how would a dog of her size do in a small apartment (about 700sq ft)?

Hi Simply_ulee. I wish I could effectively answer that question but I honestly have no idea... Right now, she spends most of her time in a relatively small enclosure, so my guess is that she would be somewhat accustomed to smaller living areas. She has always seemed very quiet and easy-going, I don't think I've ever heard her bark. She also seems to have a more manageable energy level than some of her fellow Jindos, so there's a possibility that she would be fine in an apartment- but I haven't spent a lot of time with her...

thanks for the reply - i just met her for the first time but all the things u stated r what i noticed which is why i thought she might do okay with me in an apartment, even for being a large dog. she was very calm, and not jumpy, and very quiet, and though my apt is small, it's still much bigger than the pen she's in :) but i will have to spend more time with the dogs i'm considering before making the decision to foster.

I'm currently living in Seoul and I think I'd like to try and come down to visit Crystal... My apartment is small, however at this point I'm thinking that even a small apartment would be better for her as she awaits her forever home than staying at the shelter.

oh i'm so happy to hear that; she is one of my top picks for fostering and just a great dog. it would be so wonderful if you could foster her, then i could open my home to one of the other doggies in need. are you in the ARK group on Facebook? i'm fairly new so you can get a lot more info from the group.

Hi Athena- It would be great if you could visit Crystal, and even better if you could offer her a better place to stay!! She is a super-lovely dog with a really laid-back and sweet personality, and unfortunately this doesn't always work well for her in the shelter. Probably part of the reason why she is so skinny is due to the stress of her living situation. That being said, it would be very smart for you to spend a bit of time with her before taking her home to make sure you would be able to attend to her needs without disrupting your life to any significant extent (ie; being kicked out of your apartment building). And euo618- I personally have not seen Crystal around cats, although there are always cats wandering around the shelter. From what I understand about her breed as a whole, Jindos are hunting dogs, and generally don't do very well with smaller animals. Of course, each individual dog has a different personality, so this may not be the case for Crystal. If anyone else has seen Crystal with cats, please give some advice!

Crystal gave birth to 4 puppies on April 1st. Unfortunately, two of the puppies did not make it. :( Crystal is doing well and the two puppies who survived are also fine. I took a few pictures through the cage since I didn't want to upset Crystal or the pups, but in the next few weeks I hope to get some better photos of them. They certainly will be beautiful if they take after their Mom.~~

Crystal and her two puppies are doing great. Crystal got out and stretched her legs on a much needed walk today. She is as beautiful as ever. Her puppies (both girls) enjoyed some fresh air and sunshine as well. Mr. Park's sister will adopt one of the puppies, but the other little girl (pictured below) will be available for adoption soon. :)

That puppy is beyond cute! I would love to adopt, and it would be young so it could be familiarized with a cat without a problem. I know it will take a few weeks for adoption though. It looks like I will making a trip to Asan soon. ^.^ By the way, is the father known? If so, is he bigger or smaller than Crystal?

Crystal is as beautiful as ever, but is very restless staying inside her cage 24/7. She needs daily walks and a lot of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Yesterday on her walk, Crystal flushed a deer out of the brush! I don't know who was more startled --- myself or the deer!

Hi Lunatokki. Thank you for your interest in Crystal! May I ask if your housing situation has changed? I remember your adoption with Wombat didn't work out because you were not allowed pets. If your building manager had a problem with a little guy like him, s/he would more than likely have a BIG problem with a large Jindo like Crystal.

Yea, you are totally right about that and I am talking to him at the moment to see if I can change his mind. He told me the situation was that the man that owns the building behind us doesn't like dogs barking and it seemed when I left the house he barked a bit so the man would get in fights with my landlord >.< he told me that if the dog is quiet he didn't care, but I'm trying to get that in writing! Last time was not fun saying goodbye T.T I will let you know as soon as I do, but either way it would be nice to go visit all the dogs and bring some food or treats or anything they might need. Also, do you think it's possible to adopt right before I left if no one claims this sweetheart? I am not sure how that would work

Hi, I'm wondering if I could come down to the shelter and see Crystal at some point. I might be interested in fostering a dog. Lunatokki, when are you planning to leave Korea? Did you find out whether you can adopt Crystal right before leaving?

Crystal is available for adoption. You can join our shelter trip anytime and meet Crystal.
But to be able to take the dog home, your foster/adoption appl has to be approved. The shelter managger requires at least 1 visit before appl can't be approved. So - welcome!

Thanks for the info! I would like to adopt a dog, but I'm still not sure whether I can or not. However, I'd love to come visit the shelter in the meantime. I'd like to see Crystal and some of the dogs there and talk about ways to help out. I want to volunteer at a shelter regularly but haven't decided at which one yet. I want to visit a few shelters and see which ones need the most help and which ones are most accessible from where I live. When are your next few shelter trips and what are some ways that I could help out? Thanks!

Hi Heather Lynne- There are usually trips to the Asan shelter every weekend, although whether it's on the Saturday or the Sunday varies from week to week. This weekend, the trip is on Sunday (Aug. 19), and we will meet at the Dunkin Donuts inside the Cheonan/Asan KTX station at 11am. If you are on Facebook, you should be able to find the event details, and if not, please email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions.
Thanks a bunch!
