I HAVE A FAMILY!!!
Frosty has a new name and a new family! He is now Watson and will be living in Mokpo with his mom and dad, Laura and Greg until they go back to Canada next year. Laura and Greg took a 4+ hour car trip just to meet Watson. Watson was very much in love, especially with his new mommy, whom he was not happy about having her leave him on Saturday night when she left to go get a hotel room. He went to the door and waited - he doesn't do that for any of my guests. I really knew then that he had already chosen them as his own. Not only did Laura and Greg give Watson a second chance at an amazing life, but they also donated money to help aid in the animal rescue program as well as purchased supplies for the Yangju shelter to help get them off the ground and running, including toys, brushes, harnesses and leads. I'm so happy that Watson found a family that is just as sweet and giving as he is! I'm also glad that I have also made two new friends! Thank you everyone who shared Watson's information and for picking him up from the pound and the shelter and his former fosters and for his new mom and dad for finding him and loving him! Next week, he will be camping in a tent out on the beach with his family and friends. Oh the good life!
Update: 22 April 2012:
I have had Frosty with me now for over a month. He is beautiful inside and out and I feel as though I have been blessed to have him in my life. He is finally completely healthy. He is up to date on all of his shots, his cast is off and his leg is strong and he has had dental work. He is ready for his forever home. It will hurt to have him leave me but it makes my heart soar to know that he will bring such love, awe and happiness to someone else. This dog is a real gem and I promise you, if you turn up the opportunity to make him a part of your family, you are really going to miss out on a soul that brighten you life in every way and every day.
Part of me wants so badly to hold on to him, but I know that he has already touched my life and will never be forgotten and it is his time to touch his forever family.
He is great with all people, not matter the age. He is amazing with all dogs and happy to have a cat in his space. When we go for walks, everyone calls him over and he happily obliges, sitting nicely for all to come and love him. Mothers call their children over to pet him and he is great. Then when I tell him it is time to go, he stands and leaves kindly and leaves everyone looking after him with a huge smile on their faces. He loves to play and wrestle with my dachshund. He was a bit jealous of my other dog for the first week. He didn't want to share me with the other dog, but then he became used to Dash and now they both rum up to jump on me in the morning when my alarm goes off for their belly rubs and kisses.
He is not a big barker, though every once in a while he hears something outside the door and will bark probably 3 times before stoping. I am working on him with this and I think it should be an easy fix for anyone. He has had no complaints from neighbors about barking while I am away at work. I have even had my manager call my apartment manager to let him know that I had him and to let me know if anyone, including him and the cleaning woman know if they ever heard him bark so that I could work on it with him. They said that they have never heard a peep from him.
Dont let this amazing boy go! You will not regret the decision to make him a part of your familiy! If I was a business woman I would put a *guaranteed* stamp on this amazing boy! :)
Update: 13 April 2012:
Frosty just got his cast off and a long over-due bath and haircut. At first I was upset to see his wild long hair go, but he is growing into the new cut and he will appreciate it more now that spring has arrived. Pictures to follow!

Update: 13 March 2012:
Frosty started his series of shots and will soon be "up-to-date" soon enough. He also had his broken leg accessed and re-bandaged. "looking good" the vet says. His good and loving temperament amazed the vet and the techs, and Frosty had a grand time playing with the vet's in-house cats.

Update 25 Feb 2012:
I took Frosty to the vet today. He was acting unusual yesterday and I noticed he seemed to be protecting his left leg. The vet concluded that he has a broken bone, but didn't need an operation (thankfully). I suspect that he might have got it caught in his kennel somehow, but there is no way to know for sure. He has to be in the cast for 6 weeks, but is loving all the extra attention and being carried everywhere.
It's amazing how he didn't whimper through any of it or show that he was in much pain. He's such a strong little dog.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Update 20 Feb 2012:
Another health check and Frosty seems to be all better! All his hair has grown back and he's doing great. Now, if he could just find a forever home. If that doesn't happen soon, he will need a new foster home. I'm leaving Korea in a month and need to secure another home for Frosty before then.
Please email me with any questions, or if you're interested in adopting or fostering him.
-Alicia

Update 26 Jan 2012
Frosty is doing much better now. His ear infection seems to have cleared up, he has fur on his tail again and even ear fuzz! He is still taking medicine with his food but displays more energy than he once did. He does have some fur discoloration that seems to be improving with time (and baths). He's such a great dog and is still in need of a forever home. He's already neutered, potty trained, crate trained, good with other animals and walks very well on a leash. He's very sweet and when you call him while seated he puts his paws up on you and quietly awaits pets. He's truly a treasure and very low maintenance.

Update 18 Jan 2012:
The excellent news is, Frosty is heartworm NEGATIVE!!! Happy days!! :) So today he had his first heartworm prevention pill :)
The poor boy is really quite under the weather otherwise. He had a full check up today and he has a nasty ear infection and chronic bronchitis. For both of these he is on medicince 2 x a day and he cannot have any exercise. He also has the early stages of heart disease, but correctly managed the doctor says it shouldn't even begin to progress until the next 3-5 years. In the meantime, he needs to eat a low sodium diet and he'll be just fine :) Lastly, he has fungal dermatophytosis - the doctor has taken a sample to culture on agar and we'll know what kind it is in 4 days time.
He weighs 6.6kg's and needs to lose weight. The vet estimates his age to be somewhere between 4 & 6 years.
He walks like an absolute GEM on the lead and is just a wonderful, friendly dog. I am so glad that he is in a warm home and can get his health sorted out. He'll be ready for adoption in no time and will give his new mom or dad so much loving they won't know what to do with themselves!
Update 12 Jan 2012:
Frosty went into foster care today! :) He is so sweet and friendly!

January, 2012
This tiny boy is really worrying me. The reason? His ears and tail have lost a lot of fur and they are FREEZING. I am genuinely worried that they will get frostbite if he is not taken into a warm environment as soon as possible.
Frosty is a very loving little boy, he wants to be picked up and held. He put her little paws up against the wooden fence and I leaned over to say hi, touching his ears...they were like little ice blocks :( I badly wanted to bundle him up and take him home, but I have 3 fosters at the moment.
PLEASE would someone get him out of the shelter? Spare his little ears and his little tail from the sub-zero temperatures that he has to endure every day? If you would like to help, please contact me asap. Unfortunately, I don't know much about him, but I can tell he would make a wonderful addition to any family.

He looks so good! I actually can't believe how quickly he has improved since you got him! What's it been - 2 and a half weeks?! It also looks like he's lost a little weight :) He was always a cutie, but now he really is looking dashing! Thank you for taking him! <3

WOW! This is so amazing to see! Look at him smiling! Clare, it's so great you took him initially from the shelter..who knows how long his little ears and tail would have held out in the cold. It seems like this cutie patootie would be great for a fam with kids.

He's incredibly sweet. Whenever I sit on the floor he runs up to me and wants to play. One game he really loves I call "to catch a paw." We face each other, my hands out and his paws out and I try to touch one of his paws before he can move it. He seems uninterested in toys, though maybe I haven't found the right one for him. When it's time for a walk I go to the door and hold out his leash, then he runs up to me, does one circle around my feet, then sits right in front of me so I can put his leash on. Sometimes he tries to help with the leash ;)
Frosty loves being pet, most dogs do though I suppose, and he likes to be held. He isn't needy for attention but always grateful when he get's some. I don't cuddle with him (I think it may create to strong an attachment) but he is a good lap dog. He's also really easy to groom and bathe. He does try to bite his tail sometimes though.

No emails from anyone interested in fostering or adopting. I'm getting really worried because he has to wear his cast until April 7th but I'll have left Korea about 2 weeks earlier.

I just read this about malteses. Interesting!
"figures released in 2010 by the Korean National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service show that some 1,208 Maltese were abandoned between January and August 2010, making it the most abandoned breed in Seoul, Korea."
Also - Alicia, I sent you a PM about Frosty. Thanks!

I wonder why that is... if my experience with Frosty is any indicator on how the breed behaves in general, they are an ideal breed! Low maintenance, sweet and quiet. Unfathomable.

Adjusting well. We are settling down for the night he is asleep at the foot of the bed and Daschel is under the covers. We have a vet appointment tomorrow so the doc can view the progress on his leg and redress the leg. He also has an appointment with the groomer at the same time. I sent u an email with some A's about his original health check

Frosty is so adaptable in all situations. He is having the best time playing with neighborhood dogs, taking short walks, and being loved by all the people in our apartment building. Our security guard picked him up the other day and kissed the bottom of his cast. Haha. He is going to the vet every two weeks for his DHHPL shots - we go in today.
He is such a cuddle monster and all that wonder fur just feels amazing. The best part is that he DOESN'T SHED! I was informed he has "hair" and not "fur" so he wont shed. It is amazing.
Keep your fingers crossed someone finds this treasure and adopts him!

So, I am pretty certain that Frosty lost his family because he wandered away. Everyone at the dog park cannot stop laughing at him now a days. For the first 3 weeks, he would search out the doggie-mammas on the benches and sit under their feet the entire time looking for snacks. Once I put an end to people giving him snack (he needs to loose wait), he started playing and scoping out the park. Now he is consistently on some smelling mission. His nose hits the ground and he waddles off so fast. The kids love it because they like to say - "ohhh Plassteeeee' and chase after him, attempt to pick him up and bring him back. It's more funny when he manages to get a following of dogs who go with him and the kids try and herd them all back. I can imagine that if someone turned their back on him in a place he was familiar with, he would be gone in a heartbeat. Gotta keep your eye on this little stinker!
