Tony (on the left of the photo) is a bit of a bruiser - he's a confident little man who wants to show off his machismo! His personality is so awesome - big tough guy in a little pup's body. But even tough guys need and want love! That said, he seems to have "calmed down" quite a bit since he was neutered, however. ;) He's been at KAPS since November 2011, and he generally gets along well with the other dogs in the yard.
Tony has been adopted TWICE in the last 6-8 weeks. The first Korean family returned Tony to KAPS because they claimed he was a bit loud-- barking and grunting as shih tzus often do. Tony needs to find a person who is willing to work with him on his easily resolvable issues. The second time around, he was adopted by a Korean mother and daughter who have never owned a pet. When they brought him home, her husband said he was a bit smelly (being in a shelter, naturally!)... so he was returned. It doesn't seem that Tony did anything wrong the second time around!! In fact, his behaviour has GREATLY improved since he was neutered a few weeks ago.
Tony is now ready for a REAL shot at a perfect family.
He will need training - I believe bark training, basic commands, re-housetraining, and proper socialization.
If you are interested in adopting Tony, please inquire by emailing KAPS.Adoption(at)gmail.com.
If you are interested in fostering Tony, please inquire by emailing KAPS.Fostering(at)gmail.com.

I have a special place in my heart for all KAPS dogs-- but Tony certainly stands out. He looks like he could be a doggie model. If I saw him in a commercial for Pedigree, I might just buy the stuff! Just kidding, I know that's ridiculous. But he's charming. Very charming.
If you are not in a position to foster or adopt Tony, please come and visit him at KAPS-- he loves visitors! And while you're there, snap a few photos and post them here in the comments section. He would really appreciate it!

Would it be possible to have him neutered while he is in the shelter? Maybe we could raise some money for it? Neutering calmed my shih tzu RIGHT down to the most chilled out, non-marking dog :) I would think this would definitely increase Tony's adoptability and I know I would be very happy to contribute towards it. Sure others would too!

I agree that having Tony neutered would likely calm him down and make him more adoptable. It is certainly possible to have him neutered while in the shelter. We would have to have an amazing, generous soul come forth and sponsor him, however. We'd need to raise about 100,000won to cover the whole show! ^^ Let's get Tony snipped (cue the snipping gesture)! If anyone is interested in contributing, please let me know.

Update: Tony was adopted, and returned to the shelter. We need to check if he was in fact neutered during his time with that family. That would be great! If not, Marla and Clare, are you still able to donate?

I will (begrudgingly) bite my tongue about him being returned to the shelter... >.<
I am absolutely stone broke at the moment but I will definitely try my best to scrape together some cash for Tony!
What would the process be? Will he be returned to the shelter on the same day as his op? Poor boy :(

Yes, if Tony wasn't neutered you can still count me in for the money. Clare, if Nobu's surgeries have left you without any extra money kicking around, I'd be happy to cover your share of Tony's surgery and then when Chloe has her surgery this winter, or when something else comes up, you can contribute 20,000 won then! :)

Thanks so much, Clare and Marla!
I will be visiting the shelter next weekend, and will let you know then! If he has yet to be neutered, we will likely have him spend 2 or 3 nights with an emergency foster to recover a bit before heading back to the shelter.
No long-term fosters have expressed any willingness in fostering Tony, but we hope to promote him at the next dog walk on Oct 21st. We need to find a foster who is willing to train him, and deal with his barking and occasional aggression (we are hoping the neutering will fix this.) Fingers crossed!
I've been following little Nobu's progress, Clare. Amazing job!
Marla, best wishes for Chloe's surgery!

I think this is Tony's first family. I was there when he was adopted the second time, and the woman was dressed very differently.

Tony has returned to the shelter again. We are trying to find out more details so we can make sure his profile is updated accordingly. He is now neutered and seems to be much calmer with the other dogs. Hopefully we can find him his forever home soon.

Hi Everyone,
I just got word from our Korean Volunteer about why Tony was brought back to the shelter. Apparently this time he did nothing wrong. The lady who adopted him had never owned a dog before and didn't know what she was doing. She didn't give him a bath and I think maybe her husband complained that Tony smelled bad. Our KAPS worker tried to give her some hints on dog care when she brought him back but the lady said she didn't want him anymore.
His behaviour at the shelter has changed quite a lot since he was neutered. He is much calmer and generally much better behaved.

Tony is still at the shelter. He is generally much better behaved since his neutering, but since Blue the Collie moved outside he is feeling a little threatened. He feels Blue is rather asking for too much attention and must be put in his place, which of course is totally wasted on Blue who is about 3 times Tony's size! Blue tends to look a bit shocked and walk away.
Tony is just barking and trying to jump onto Blue, if no one is paying either of them any mind, they don't bother with each other.
Blue only moved to live with the Shih Tzu's this week, so hopefully his being there will help Tony learn to feel more comfortable around dogs. But we will keep an eye on them.
Tony just loves to snuggle up with our volunteers and will just lay down and enjoy the closeness of you. He is definitely a people person (dog). Please consider him.

Foster or adopt Tony! He's like a cool little Italian dude. He might know how to make lasagna. You won't know until you take him home!
