UPDATE: June 30

Hooray for Custard!!! FINALLY Custard was adopted today and I couldn't be happier! A lovely couple were enraptured by charming Custard and are willing to welcome her into their lives, offer her a forever home and help her kick the remaining sniffles she has. I couldn't have asked for a more caring, understanding and kind family for her to live with. Congratulations Custard and many heartfelt thankyous to Jun Eun who fostered Custard and gave her the chance she so desperately needed.

UPDATE: June 20

It was so lovely to see Custard last night in her foster home. She has become quite the energetic, playful little kitty. She gave us many laughs as she scooted around the house and played with us. I was quite amazed how talkative she's become. She really enjoys the company of people I think. I can't imagine her ever been at the shelter, it's like she was always been a housecat! Custard's health has become significantly better, she has no eye or nose discharge anymore but still has some irregular sniffles due to the herpes virus, which according to her foster only happen every so often. Most days her breathing is clear. Custard still has to finish some medication, but it has been heavily reduced and should be completed in a short while. Her foster will continue to monitor her condition but all in all Custard is a happy, healthy energetic girl! I would love to see her find a permanent home soon, she would be bundles of fun to be in the company of!

UPDATE: June 3

Custard continues to thrive in her foster home. Her health is improving, sniffles and discharge slowly becoming less and less, and will continue with her meds until the end of this week. It goes to show how much a difference moving a sick cat into a home has on their health and improving their chances of recovery. Custard has really blossomed in the short time she's been with her foster and I have high hopes she'll recover in no time. As you can see in the videos below, she has boundless energy, is incredibly affectionate and playful and is simply a wonderful kitty all round! I would love to see this girl find the best forever home, she deserves it. Why not consider welcoming Custard into your life? Female ginger cats are rare gems indeed ^^

UPDATE: May 28

Custard is simply the loveliest cat! She continues to charm her foster and has really made her home her own, lapping up all the love and attention she can get. Custard had a check up at the vets recently but is still struggling to shake some symptoms so will require so more meds for another two weeks. Despite this, this hasn't stopped Custard's boundless energy or desire to play or cuddle. Her recovery will be slow I think but it's only a matter of time before she's healthy again! Go Custard!

UPDATE: May 17

Custard was released from the vets today and went into a lovely foster home in Seoul. She did extremely well during her week at the vets but needs to take some medication to help with her calicivirus for one more week. Luckily, now that she's a in a home where she can receive heaps of TLC, Custard should make a speedy recovery. I'm so happy to see this sweet girl finally get the attention she deserves to help combat her ailments. Stay tuned for more updates on her development in foster care. No doubt she will flourish and develop into the loveliest housecat. If you're seeking a very special, friendly, extremely affectionate lady cat - female ginger cats are very rare! - then Custard is definitely the kitty for you. UPDATE: May 11

I took Custard to have her sponsored health check today. The vet confirmed Custard does not have herpes, but rather has feline calicivirus, a related respiratory infection, as well as a case of earmites, both common ailments found in shelter environments. While she received and continues to receive antibiotics to help with the virus symptoms, she may possibly become a carrier of the virus for the rest of life, though carriers have also known to stop shedding the virus a year after recovery. Thus it will be important for Custard to go into a home with no other cats or cats who have been vaccinated against the virus. While at the vets Custard also received eye and eardrops for the virus symptoms and for tackling the earmites. She'll be receiving medication for a week at the vets until she goes into a foster home next weekend where no doubt we will see her recover, thrive and get all the love and attention she deserves! Custard will recover well in due time, and will also receive another booster vaccination when she's ready, but please don't let this minor hurdle deter you from adopting one the most sweetest orange female kitties you could ever meet! UPDATE: March 16

Wowee!! An extremely generous cat lover has given a huge donation towards getting Custard and Biscuit a much needed health check. Let's hope a little extra TLC and treatment too will help nip the herpes virus in the bud. But it would be such a shame to see her returned to the shelter after the health check, she really needs a warm stable home environment to really tackle this virus. I would like to reiterate that treatment for the virus is easy and affordable to treat and she could even go to a home with other cats, as long as they are all up to date with their vaccinations. Custard is an extremely docile, friendly, gentle, affectionate cat who would love nothing more for a lap to sleep on and all the cuddles and chin scratches she can get. I would really love to see this amazing cat get the second chance she really deserves. Please consider opening your home and heart to her. Stay posted for her health check update!

UPDATE: February 16

Friendly gentle Custard is still waiting for that special someone! Yesterday some kind volunteers made some cat sun lounges from crates and blankets and Custard was more than happy to check them out. She still continues to display what mostly likely is herpes virus symptoms here and there. Thankfully the days are slowly getting warmer and while Fudge can now finally enjoy a few more sunbathing hours what she really needs is a devoted someone to give her a nice warm stable home, plenty of TLC and a chance to receive a chance to recover fully from the virus. Please don't be put off by this, the herpes virus is quite common in cats, especially shelter cats, it's non fatal though it's rather uncomfortable for cats I'm sure, like having a bad cold. Treatment for herpes virus is often short and very affordable. Why not consider helping out a lovely kitty like Custard and give her a fighting chance?

Custard is doing better after receiving some medication to treat her virus symptoms, but would really benefit in having a loving warm home this winter to build her strength. Poor Custard will have to spend this holiday season at the shelter. I'm so surprised she's still waiting for that special family to come along and wisk her away from the shelter cold, I hope your perfect family isn't too far away. UPDATE: November 24

Custard is off to the vets tomorrow to address the nasal discharge and wheezing symptoms she's experiencing as a result of contracting the feline herpes virus. But what would really help to make it all better is if she gets out of the shelter environment and gets some more sustained care. Winter is fast upon us and I know this sweet girl would really blossom if she had a warm and kind place to call her own! She really deserves a second chance. Custard's family, are you out there?!!

Custard is one of the most affectionate kitties currently calling Asan shelter home. Such a gentle, sweet girl, Custard is always quick to jump in my lap, curl up and purr contently whenever I visit her. All she wants is a warm, safe and loving home where she would return the kindness with endearing friendship. It would be so great to find this girl a warm bed before the bitter Korean winter sets in.

Custard is spayed, vaccinated and generally in good shape. A general health check will be required once she leaves the shelter. Just a side note, previously there have been some cases of stomatitis ( like a feline gingivitis) and non fatal but highly contagious feline herpes virus in the shelter. Custard is displaying mild symptoms of the herpes virus (some mucous discharge and sniffling) and while she had some treatment, it needs to be maintained before it gets better. These symptoms often present themselves in cats who are in stressful conditions, like shelters. Finding a foster home for Custard would be the beginning to treat the symptoms alongside a short dose of antibiotics. Custard's oral health seems satisfactory, there are some teeth missing, but a more thorough check of her teeth is needed. At this point, Custard isn't showing any signs of stomatitis but there is a possibility stomatitis symptoms can develop in the future and thus require some dental treatment and care. Most cats that are exposed to an environment where stomatitis has occurred WILL NOT develop it, but some cats will, and a depressed immune system does seem to make them more likely to develop it. However, if by any chance this arises, there is a fantastic vet in Seoul who specializes in feline dental care we can refer you too!
