*Update 22nd March*
I was right her foster mum transferred the adoption fee and confirmed her forever home straight away as well as having her chipped. Now Kanga now has a forever family. She is adjusting fantastically and enjoying long walks and making new friends (both canine and human). Congratulations Kate and Kanga we are so glad you found each other!
*February 24th*
Kanga (formerly known as Carrie) is doing amazingly in her trial adoption. I'm pretty sure that her mum will snap her up as soon as the trial period is over.
*February 4th*
Carrie Underwood is one of the Anniversary dogs. Six dogs were rescued from the pound as a way for Leo and Jin Young (shelter directors) to celebrate their 10th anniversary. They came to BAPS January 13th.
This stunning dog has a lovable personality. She is skittish at first but quickly warms up to people when she realizes how much petting and loving she will get! She first was walked on a leash last week and was surprisingly great at it. We aren't sure of her exact age but think she is about a year old. She definitely has some jindo in her, but I don't think she will be full jindo sized!
She gets very excited when someone gets in her cage with her but does not jump around much when she’s on the leash. She is such a wonderful dog.
Medical history:
Needs a few more rounds of vaccinations. She is receiving them at the shelter.
She is not spayed yet.
Heartworm negative!
*Update February 14th*
Carrie is now in a home all cuddled up on her bed and in her new mum's lap. So far it has been a week and she hasn't failed to impress her new mum every single day. I have been fortunate enough to walk with them most nights and I don't recognise Carrie anymore. In such a short time she has blossomed into the perfect snuggler and bonded already. She is also 100% house trained preferring to save her business for away from home. Fingers crossed all being well that this girl has found her forever home.
*Update January 21st*
Carrie's Christmas wish may have come true (fingers crossed). One of the volunteers at BAPS has fallen hard for this beautiful girl. Her potential mum has lots of dog experience and is already planning how to tire out this little beauty, honestly we couldn't wish for a better home for her. Fingers crossed she will be going home with her new mum on February 5th.
*Update January 14th*
This gorgeous girl is still waiting, she's looking awesome as ever and is doing quite well. She is very loving and really does need people in her life. She is super smart and displays a lot of jindo traits, however, she is also very small. Carrie is still very young so the lucky person who takes her will be able to train her up. She doesn't know a lot of commands at the moment but she just needs to be shown and she will take your breath away with her ability. Please consider coming along to meet Carrie and making her a part of your family.
*Update 30th December*
Poor Carrie has been a little stressed recently. The lovely Paula who was Carrie's cage mom has been adopted and it has left Carrie lost without her best friend. Carrie has lost a little weight from the grief of the loss. Carrie is such a lovely girl with such a unique personality and will brighten any home with her princess ways. She needs a fairly active home where she will be able to be tired out, so far a walk once a week is not cutting it for this princess. She would love someone who would be willing to spend some time training her to do different tricks, she's such an intelligent dog that the mental stimulation will really help her as well. Carrie doesn't bond with everyone but if you are able to take the time to get to know her and win her over then she will reward you with a lifetime of unwavering loyalty.
*Update December 6th*
I've been volunteering for six months and hanging out with Carrie the whole time I've been going but I don't think I've ever realised how small she is. She's not much bigger than a cocker spaniel if you look closely but she does have a presence, part of which is her natural grace. She really wouldn't take a huge amount of work if she was lucky enough to find her home, jindos are ridiculously intelligent and very eager to please their humans. She's currently featured in the BAPS christmas cards and is proving to be ridiculously popular, everyone is cooing at how pretty she is and how cute. Carrie really deserves a chance to impress a potential family with her good looks and grace.
******Update November 22nd*****
I really don't know what to say about Carrie that I haven't said already apart from that I really do love her. She is one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen with a wise face. She has such love waiting for her forever human that it is unreal. I honestly believe that out of all the BAPS dogs Carrie would be one of the easiest to train. She is eager to please and desperate to please. She would do amazingly in a house and really does deserve a chance at having a forever family. Please consider coming to meet her and becoming her special person.
*****Update November 8th*****
Jindo's are dogs who are renowned for bonding with their owners, and they really do. Once a jindo has welcomed you into her/his heart you are there forever, no matter what. Carrie needs to learn what it is like to give that love to someone, she has done it once with a volunteer but the volunteer left. She deserves to have the chance to do it again. At the moment she appears high energy because she is so happy to get out but, I honestly believe that she would calm down a lot in a home. She has such potential and is very smart, please consider giving her a chance to prove herself to you.
*****Update October 14th*****
Carrie is a magnificent looking dog who is always happy to see you. While I was in her cage this weekend she literally jumped into my arms for me to harness her next. She is an extraordinary dog and one that deserves her forever home soon. Korea really does have an abundance of jindo crosses scattered around in shelters and it's often hard for them to catch a break. Here in Korea she would be considered slightly larger but in other places such as the UK, Canada, USA she would be considered a medium sized dog. She is very smart so will need someone who is willing to both physically and mentally tire her (this is easily done through using different toys and training). I think it is important to note that BAPS does do international adoptions. If you think you could offer Carrie what she needs then it would be great to hear from you.
****Update October 6th****
Carrie needs out of BAPS, she is a medium to high energy dog that is wasting away being stuck in a cage. Carrie is extremely smart and will be a quick learner but she is lacking the mental and physical stimulation that she so needs. Carrie is still quite young so should be easier to train. I know from experience that Jindo's (even the crosses) are extremely smart and pick up new tricks well. She seems to be fine with smaller dogs therefore I would say that her prey drive is not extremely strong. Please consider taking Carrie home she really does need a break and the chance to achieve all that she can be.
***Update 2nd October***
Someone awesome has fostered Carrie to be de-sexed which is amazing, so we are hoping to get her a medical foster soon and get her done! She is an awesome dog who will really benefit from it, so thank you to the person who sponsored her. Carrie is still looking for a home though, people all fall in love with her but she hasn't gone to a home yet. Carrie is much smaller than the average jindo and shouldn't be too much hassle in your average one room apartment. She will fit pretty much anywhere and is very smart so should be easy to train, there are also a growing number of jindo owners out there who can help you with advice etc so that shouldn't be a deterrent. Carrie is very loving and would benefit from having someone/people who she can bond with, at the moment it's hard on her as ever week someone different walks her and she doesn't have the time to form firm attachments. Carrie does pull on the leash at the moment but that is easily remedied with a bit of training and regular walks.
**Update 27th September**
Carrie is awesome, she is truly a special girl. She seems to be okay with other dogs and loves everybody that passes her. She loves cooling down in the stream when it is hot, of course I never have my camera at the best moments. She is hilarious when she starts to see the water, she jumped the other day off the small bridge and splashed around like a young child at the seaside. She has a spark Carrie and is something truly spectacular, not only is she beautiful but she is smart as well and should respond well to training. She just needs the chance to get into a home and show them exactly what she is made of.
*Update - September 1st*
Poor Carrie. It looks like our beautiful Jindo girl is currently in heat. So she was a huge ball of energy on Sunday. She's normally a pretty sweet girl but she really needs sponsorship to be spayed. She had so much energy on Sunday, she is the kind of dog who is begging for a forever home where she can get out and about. She is so happy whenever she is out, I have no doubt that with a bit of training she will be amazing out and about. At the moment she pulls a little on the leash but this is easily rectified with a little bit of training. She shows so much promise and will happily be your new running buddy if you give her that chance. When I took a break while walking her she stayed quite close to me, sniffing at me. She even met some older children (don't know the exact age) but she was very gentle with them and loved it when they gave her love. She is such a special girl. She also doesn't show the typical jindo aversion to water, in fact she loves nothing better than flopping down in the stream and cooling down. Whoever takes her home is going to be one lucky dog mum...
*Update-July 1st*
Carrie is doing well without "mommy" and cagemate Paula. She is shedding at the moment so huge clumps of her hair are coming off as she gets ready for summer. But this hasn't affected her at all. She's is full of energy and fun, and can't wait to get in the water. Carrie is a great swimmer who will take any opportunity for a dip in the river. She also got a good brush down from one of our volunteer so she is looking great.
Carrie also also shown that she can get on well with other dogs, as she has two new smaller cage mates since Paula has been in foster care.
*Update-June 16th*
Carrie loved her walks so much today. When she went for a walk with our volunteers she jumped into the river for a swim. Carrie loves water and lay down the a small stream to cool off. This wonderful girl is full of fun and energy. She's happy to do whatever you want her to do, she's a strong girl but if you lead her well she's happy to fall in line. She was also super cuddly and affectionate. She just wanted to climb into my lap to cuddle today.
*Update-May 13th*
Carrie had a great day on Sunday. She was happy to be out walking but after a while decided she needed to go for a rest in the shade. Carrie jumped into a pile of leaves to relax. We have noticed that Carrie is really growing up, her puppy fur is slowly being replaced by her adult fur. This girl is getting more beautiful all the time.
*Update-April 24th*
Carrie is doing well at the shelter. Her walking is improving and she loves getting out of the shelter to meet the volunteers. Carrie is a beautiful dog and her fur is super soft like a teddy bear. Carrie is part Jindo but she's not that big, she's actually a small lady who doesn't mind being picked up and cuddled.
*Update-February 27th*
I will be out of the country for a few months so a lovely volunteer named Claire will be taking over my profiles to make sure they don't expire! You can contact either of us with any questions, but she will be faster to answer. However, I am still more than willing to help if you need me:-)
*Update-February 12th*
Everybody loves Carrie! She walked even better on the leash this week, realizing that it's super fun to be outside with everyone! Her fur is so soft and she loves attention from people and dogs. Give Carrie a chance! She's amazing!
Lovely Carrie is a BAPS dog, which means anyone interested in fostering or adopting her will need to complete the adoption application (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/adoption-application) and volunteer two Sundays in a row (from 11-3) at our shelter. For an adoption, one must complete a month long trial to make sure you and the dog are a good fit! You can visit the shelter page for more information!
*BAPS also has a sponsorship program. Anyone interested can give 200,000 won for a dog to have their full health check, be neutered or spayed, and get any necessary dental work. If you are interested in sponsoring Carrie, please let me know!
