UPDATE 9/30/2013: Hamlet went to a foster home this weekend. He's doing great! Here's what his new foster mama says about him:
"...Hamlet is the most well behaved dog. He doesn't seem to enjoy going up the stairs, but we will work on that. We actually were met by another dog on our walk who was off his leash and they sniffed each other and Hamlet didn't try to nip or bark. He hasn't had any accidents, and he's been extremely good. I left for a little bit today to get groceries and left the TV on with Korean soaps, I figured it might be comforting since Mrs. Jung watched TV. When I came back he was SO excited, but no accidents - nothing chewed, no marking...He's so wonderful - he's even better behaved than my dog back home!. The entire ride home as well, he spent about 5 hours in the crate but he never whined once or barked, or urinated in his crate. Just amazing."
UPDATE: If you'd like to foster or adopt a dog who is fully trained and loves people, how about Hamlet? He was adopted last April, and through no fault of his own, he is back at Daejeon Paws and is again looking for a forever home. Please consider this friendly, handsome little guy!
Are you looking for your best friend for life? Please consider Hamlet. He is such a warm and happy guy. He was found on the street in Chung-ju at the end of 2010, and he has been in Daejeon Paws for over a year now. He seems to be very intelligent, and he loves the stimulation of interacting with people. He gets along well with other dogs and is never aggressive. Volunteers at the shelter always comment on what a gentle sweetheart he is. He walks well on a leash, and seems like he would be very easy to train. He's gained some weight since he's been in the shelter, probably due to lack of exercise. Still, he's bright and energetic, absolutely loves to go for walks and play with people. He would certainly make a great family pet. He's quite a handsome doggy, and pictures don't quite do him justice. You can read more about Hamlet and see other pictures at this link to the old ARK website: http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5036&highlight=...
Hamlet loves visitors, so if you have time, please drop by the shelter and take him out for a ramble. His cheerful ways always amaze me. He's been waiting a long time! If you'd like to meet Hamlet, please let us know.

I think there are a lot of hidden gems like Hamlet at Daejeon Paws. I hope he and the other dogs there get more visitors, or even better, a home!

Yes, Hamlet is what you'd call a hidden gem. A great little dog with no obvious bad habits. Hard to believe he's been in a shelter for so long because he's so sweet and friendly. He'd be SUCH a great pet, but I think he gets overlooked because he's not a super cute lap dog or a big majestic dog. Poor guy just wants to be someone's buddy.

I meet Hamlet a looooong time ago. It's really sad that he still hasn't found a home. He is, as Deborah said, a hidden gem. When I met him he was very freindly, kind to all the other dogs and calm. He'd be a fun and easy dog to have I think. I hope he gets a person soon!

I would love to adopt Hamlet but the thing is I live in the states and I live in the part farther from Korea and I think travel for this little guy would be too much.

Actually, many dogs have been adopted from Korea and transported back to the US or Canada. It would be a long trip, but it's not impossible.

Does anybody know how much it would cost to fly Hamlet to Boston?

ttda, are you on Facebook? That's the kind of Q that's good to run by the ARK discussion board on Facebook. Deborah, do you know? I know that sometimes people will post and ask if anyone is going out to X place because if they will be going near you and they are willing to help, then the dog can be put in cargo for cheaper than shipping the dog by himself.

ttda, huh? This is the main site, but people chat about those sort of practical things on Facebook a lot. I just popped in and someone was inquiring about shipping a cat, and someone suggested this place http://www.petairline.co.kr/ and said it would cost about 500,000 won. But if you could find someone willing to have him go as cargo on their ticket, prob would be cheaper.

I'll post a question about this on the ARK Facebook page and see what I can find out. In the meantime, ttda, if you send me your email address by private message, I can send you an adoption application if you like. Thanks for your interest!

Hamlet was brought back to Daejeon Paws this weekend by the man who adopted him last April. He slimmed down quite a lot, which is good because he was much too heavy last year. The adopter said that Hamlet was being aggressive towards his wife, who just recently moved to Korea; I didn't argue about it. We just wanted Hamlet back. It turns out that he has quite a serious ear infection that has been untreated for some time. I'm a bit angry and disappointed about that. Anyway, we'll get that taken care of and hopefully Hamlet will be feeling better soon. He was his friendly, lovey-dovey self when I visited this afternoon, though his ear is obviously bothering him a lot. Arrrgh....

Hamlet's ear is much better. He's getting treatment, and in a couple of weeks he'll be fine. He's doing very well, and is adjusting to being back in the shelter. He was SO friendly today....He looks great! He's slimmed down a LOT! Wow, he almost looks like a different dog!

After several months living with his awesome foster carer, Hamlet is on his way to an adoptive home in Canada as I type this! I'm so excited for him, and I can wait to see pictures of him after he arrives in his new home. We'll definitely post some photos after he arrives. Thank you SO much Kayla for all you have done for Hamlet. You're an angel!
