Josephine, or Josie for short, is a wonderful, silly little lap dog. My boyfriend and I took her home after we saw that she was the last dog on the last page of the Karama website. We couldn't bear to see a Frenchie put down because we already own one and know what wonderful family companions that they are.
When we first brought Josie home a few weeks ago, she was severely undernourished, covered in sores and fungus, and almost bald. Now, she's well on her way to being completely healthy. She's gained some weight, the sores are clearing up, and her fur has mostly grown back and is softening.
We do know that she's heartworm and major disease free. Now that she's a bit stronger and healthier we're going to have the antibodies test done and start her on whatever vaccines she may need. Please check for updates to come soon! Also, as soon as she's healthy enough and isn't in heat we will have her spayed if she isn't adopted soon. Again, please check back for updates.
I'm sure that whoever adopts Josie will love her dearly. She's a lap dog in the most literal sense possible. She will spend as much time as possible cuddling with and curled up next to you. If you have other dogs, she will do the same to them. Currently, her and our other Frenchie, Marcel, have become inseparable. Josie grooms him and curls up next to him whenever she can. She would make a wonderful second pet as she loves other dogs and mostly ignores cats if they make it clear they don't want her near. She's not great on the leash, but is learning. I suspect this is her first real home and she may have been a mama dog from a puppy mill. :( With a little patience, I'm sure she will learn to pull less in no time. Also, she's well on her way to being housebroken. As of now, she goes either outside or on the bathroom floor (Frenchies aren't great in hot or cold weather so I've trained mine this way so they don't have to go out in extreme conditions) 95% of the time and responds really well to positive reinforcement.
Even though she's had a rough start, Josie has a wonderful, warm personality and will charm anyone who gets to know her. Don't you want to be the stable home she is so desperately seeking?
