Chloe!!
3/9.. Chloe is still searching for her ANGEL.. It appears Chloe has been at the shelter for a long time now.. and is very deserving of a place to call her own. Shes a low maintence girl, who desperately wants to love, and to have someone that will love her. In a nutshell shes; lovable, sweet, affectionate, loyal, mellow, dedicated.. and wants to provide you with ALL that plus lots.. lots.. more. Her eye has recently been fixed. Lets make the eye correction her first of many good happenings in 2012!
1/26.. Cutie Chloe would make a verryy nice Valentines gift :) (significant other approved first ofcourse, haha) If you are unable to foster/adopt.. even stopping by and spending some 1:1 with Chloe would make her day! She doesnt get very much attention with sooo many pups running around, and would love someone to give her a bit of extra lovin'
1/2.. Chloe is still available. Please, dont overlook this lady because she isnt "perfect" on the outside. She does have a minor eye issue, which makes the one eye quite smaller than the other - BUT shes simply, being herself. Chloe spends a great deal of her day playing "mommy" to the Asan pups, and hardly has any time to spend by alone. Shes easy going, loves to be rubbed and loves attention. Shes not the bouncey, in your face, going a mile a minute dog. Shes ideal for someone that can see past her eye and love her for being HER. Shes spent so much time, standing in the back while others get adopted.. now its her turn. 2012! Lets make this the year Chloe finds forever love, comfort and hope :)
Chloe reminds me of the old lady on each neighborhood block who; watches kids, makes delicious cookies, gives you bandaids if you fall off your bike, and ALWAYS provides the best advice! This girl is as easy going as they come. She watches all her other pen mates carefully, avoids trouble, and keeps the little ones out of harms way. When new people come up to their pen, she politely waits her turn for some attention.. BUT when given her chance takes in EVERY ounce of affection and love. Shes extremely laid back with an obvious big heart and personality. With all these qualities, she will fit perfectly into a home.. She doesnt require too much special attention -- just a willing mommy or daddy to look after her. (She'll save you from becoming that neighborhood lady...!)
Her weight is listed as "medium" -- but shes on the small end of that scale. Please consider this sweetie pie. If interested in fostering or adopting, please contact Sofia at [email protected]

Chloe is progressing wonderfully! She no longer spends any time in her crate and loves to be where everyone else is, doing what everyone else is doing. She always greets me with her tail wagging and is starting to enjoy her walks more. It's funny how different she and Alexis are. Alexis a bit of a dainty princess. She is VERY particular about what she eats, where she walks, and what she steps on. And, she won't pee unless it is the exact right location, the exact right time and all the planets are in perfect alignment! :) Chloe, on the other hand, is a bit of a bull in a china shop. She doesn't look where she is going, she will walk into anything, she eats anything, anywhere, and she will pee anywhere outside. She also has this cute 'bear-like' way of walking with her legs far apart and she makes lots of snorts and grunts. SO CUTE! But they both have such sweet, tender hearts and they both love to love! They are gentle, affectionate and wonderful!
I tried to take a couple pictures of Chloe when she was looking particularly happy and energetic but my other furry children are such camera hogs and by the time I actually got Chloe alone she was played out!! Here's all I could come up with.

Here's a few videos of Chloe doing the two things she does best: wagging her tail and sleeping. She is ALWAYS doing one or the other! You can see in the last video that she is very good with Gray. He was swiping at her and nipping at her paw and she just pretended to sleep through it!

This is what all dogs do after leaving the shelter - they sleep.
They miss it in the shelter with all noises, pen/cage mates, etc.
Adorable videos.

Gray has a new favorite activity: riding Chloe like a horse! I`m totally serious!! It is crazy to watch. Gray waits for Chloe to get up and he runs and jumps on to her back and then tries to stay on as long as he can (he doesn`t use his claws). He does it with Alexis too but she is less tolerant and usually rolls him off immediately. I have been trying to catch it on video but the whole thing only lasts a few seconds so I haven`t managed to yet. Hopefully I`ll be able to because it is so adorable!! I think they both get a kick out of it!

Chloe was bitten by a dog! Living on Jindo island with a ton of (unfortunately) very angry and aggressive dogs (due solely to poor treatment and having to fend for themselves) I am always really careful where I take the girls for a walk and I avoid certain places where the Jindo dogs hang out - especially at night because they always seem more aggressive then. If I see a dog coming quickly towards them I always pick them up. This dog came out of nowhere and was on top of Chloe before I knew what was happening. It looked and sounded so terrible I thought he was going to kill her. I think the combination of my screaming and flailing finally scared him off. I was SO RELIEVED to see Chloe stand up looking relatively unscathed. She has a couple not too serious bite marks but the vet helped her out and said she would likely be just fine.
Unfortunately, since this happened, she has gone back to being shy and timid. No surprise! The progress she had made has been lost. Poor girl. I`m hoping she`ll soon come out of her shell again. I feel so terrible about this all. I think Chloe was attacked because she is new to the island and unfamiliar to the dogs. I know Alexis was targeted when she first got here but now all the dogs ignore her. I`m just so scared to take them for a walk again!
Jindo is a beautiful island and there is so much that I love but what has happened to so many of the Jindo dogs here is such a shame! Jindo dogs that are given love and the proper care are such beautiful, intelligent, proud animals. It makes me so sad to see how so many of the Jindo dogs are so far away from how they could be with some love. They are angry and aggressive if they are chained up (for obvious reasons) and they are angry and aggressive if they roam free (because they have to fight for whatever scraps of garbage they can find and are always under attack - I hear terrible dog fights literally every night!). What a shame!!
Here is a picture of poor Chloe after her ordeal.

For the first time since she was attacked, Chloe came out of her crate this afternoon, had something to eat, something to drink and wanted to go out for a walk. A nice scab is also forming over the bites. Looks like healing (physical AND emotional) is coming along nicely. :)

CHLOE JUMPED! When Chloe came to live with me, she was quite heavy and totally unable to jump (I had to make steps for her to get up in the bed). But now, she has lost a bit of weight and likely gained some energy. And today she managed to jump over a piece of wood in front of the gate to my house. After she did it, she looked back at me and started wagging her tail like crazy. It was like she was saying, "Did you see that?!!! I totally jumped over that piece of wood!!!" She seemed so happy and has been jumping over all sorts of little things in the house since then!!

Chloe seems to have made an almost total recovery from being attacked by a dog. She is still a little hesitant to go too far from home but, other than that, she is great! And, the weekend was exciting because Chloe, Alexis and Gray got a new foster brother and sister, Quint and Brody! Welcome to the family, you guys!

Oh, they both have some 'shelter dog quirks' and they are both still really shy! Alexis has come a LONG way with people but even now, she won't let anyone touch her unless part of her body is touching me and even then, she often still won't let them touch her at all. Chloe only lets certain people touch her. They have to approach slowly and be a gentle, kind-hearted sort of person. And both Alexis and Chloe have a fear of dogs ever since Chloe was attacked. They both try to bolt if they hear a dog bark or growl. But, at home you would never know this because they are so relaxed. I am so lucky to have such loving animals that care for each other so much! I've read that introducing two adult, unaltered females in the same home is just asking for trouble and they rarely get along. Apparently it's the worst combination. I guess I have two super special girls!! :)

Hi Clare! They are all great! We just moved to a really small, rural area in Jangseong-gun. It's beautiful here and the dogs seem especially appreciative! In fact, Chloe has totally come alive! I think because she was attacked twice by Jindo dogs, she was really fearful of leaving home and felt fear even when she just heard them bark. But here, we haven't seen or heard a single other dog yet. Chloe has been very affectionate and energetic on her walks. I'm so happy we moved here! Alexis too has been a lot more energetic! The kittens made themselves at home in no time and love sitting and looking out the window and running around my apartment. As soon as I get my internet hooked up, I'll try to get some pictures. Thanks for checking in! :)

Bad news. When I got Chloe, I found out she had recently had some sort of surgery to remove her eye. Recently, it has been bothering her a bit. I took her and Alexis to their new vet today (who, by the way is AMAZING - I will add him to the vet directory) to get their dental surgery. While there, I mentioned Chloe's eye and he said he'd check it out during the dental surgery. The dental surgery went well on both girls (after a few extractions) but unfortunately, the vet discovered a serious problem with Chloe's eye. Apparently, it had not all been removed properly and the remaining bit of eye ball had migrated back into the socket and was causing inflammation. Although he didn't want to perform eye surgery at the same time as the dental surgery, he said it was urgent and needed immediate attention. The whole thing took much longer than it was supposed to (and cost a TON more) and he couldn't stop the bleeding in her eye. She is still at the hospital and the vet is trying to get the bleeding under control. I have to call him tonight for an update.
On the other hand, Alexis is home and recovering with beautiful teeth. I had no idea how good they could look because they were in such a terrible state before! Her surgery was smooth and, in contrast to her spay surgery, her breathing and heart rate remained stable and she was able to wake up on her own. Yay Alexis!
Please send some positive thoughts to Chloe - I feel like I have said that so much since I got my dogs. Alexis has had 2 serious hospitalizations, Chloe has been attacked by a dog and now she's going through this! Here's hoping she'll make a great recovery soon!! :)

Unfortunately, I don't have a good update for Chloe. The bleeding has not stopped. She had the surgery on Thursday morning and as of Friday evening, the bleeding is not under control yet. Obviously, she's not bleeding profusely but it just won't clot up. The vet said they would continue, for the rest of the day, to give her things to help her blood clot. He told me to come in tomorrow morning (Saturday) to have a consultation. I'm really quite concerned about what he is going to say that he wasn't willing to say over the phone. I'm feeling a little sick over it but still really hoping for the best. She is the sweetest dog and I would be devastated with anything other than, "she is good; you can take her home!"

I wish I had some good news but I don't. Chloe is still bleeding. She has a very rare form of hemophilia. The vet is giving her transfusions and has contacted specialists in Seoul to see if there are other treatments he is not aware of to stop the bleeding. Obviously, Chloe can't leave the hospital. It was very clear to me that he is doing everything he can do and really wants her to be well. He was so sweet and tender with her. I'm really happy about that because I would have been very upset if he had dropped the e-bomb (euthanasia) although he did make it clear that she may not pull through. He gave me his personal e-mail and phone number which I really appreciated and told me I could contact him any time. I'll update again when i have any more information.

No change, Sofia. Yes, she was bleeding when she was attacked by the dog. She also bled when I accidentally cut one of her nails a little too much (sorry, Chloe!). However, because her hemophilia is not severe, surface-type wounds will clot up (although she bleeds more than other dogs and they take longer to clot up). That is why I so desperately want her eye to stop bleeding. If they can stop it, she can come home and live a relatively normal life. I just have to be careful with her and obviously not get her spayed.

WONDERFUL NEWS!!!! The bleeding has FINALLY stopped!!! :) Looks like all your positive vibes worked! :) Of course, she still can't come home; she's not entirely out of the woods yet but the vet said that, more than likely, she will be fine and will be able to come home in a few days as long as the bleeding does not start up again. I went to Gwangju this morning to visit with her and she was looking SO much better than my last visit on Saturday. The vet was letting her walk around the clinic and it was obvious she's feeling much better! I hated having to leave without her but the people working there are so wonderful and I know she's well taken care of.

As you can see from the picture, her eye is looking a little rough but she doesn't seem bothered by it. I'm just SOOOOO happy to have her recovering at home with her family!! :)
