People involved in animal rescue are, on a whole, loving and caring people. Most of our efforts and affections are directed at the animals that we rescue, as it should be. Today, though, something of a revelation came to me. Our Korean rescue counterparts are appreciated, to be sure, but do we show that we appreciate them enough?

Some of you remember Pedro, a Chihuahua who came to the Asan shelter from a pound some time in the spring of 2010. I took Pedro out of the shelter for neutering almost two years ago and he spent five months with my family before moving to a new foster home in Canada. He got adopted some time in 2011 and I just got an update with pictures.

Foley brought the best out of everyone. She pulled rescuers from all over Korea together, she planted a fostering seed in the hearts of a few uni teachers, and she traveled over the seas to bring two countries together! Foley is an example of how a little teamwork goes a long way!

Two months ago, my boyfriend and I adopted a beautiful, friendly puppy from this website. We were told that he had been given his shots, despite it being 'off the record' (whatever that means). We were told this over and over, and it was written on his profile page.

Yuni was adopted May 2011. Her mom sent us some info about Vietnam from her first-hand experience to share with other ARK readers because Yuni's parents discovered her here on ARK. (thanks ark!) She is now living in Vietnam, where both her mom and dad are teaching ESL.

Beautiful Pandora lived in shelters for years and was finally adopted in January 2012. One day in May she escaped from her home near Eunhaeng Sageori in northern Seoul. We had some leads, but there was never any luck finding her. I'm sorry for the belated update, but there hasn't been much progress.

Right now I am not sure how to begin this post. I want to write a grand tribute to a dog who saved my husband but fear my words will not do her justice. At the same time, I want her life to be a beacon to others, a way to commemorate the way shelter animals touch our hearts and we have a responsibility to return that care and love otherwise the outcome could be undesirable.
